It often happens that every movement feels like a passage you were destined to take, every journey like a story waiting for you — to become its protagonist or simply a witness — every story like a personal path that doesn’t necessarily trace the course of History with a capital “H,” but tells you something new about yourself. In the American Diaries project, two tools came together in a strong and inseparable bond — tools always used to satisfy the hunger for what has always been, deep down, the artist's truest occupation: observation and storytelling. A pen and a camera. Thus, like pages from a diary, these become marginal notes in a journey of transformation at the heart of the vast New York metropolis. The project unfolds through images with a mixed code — both visual and literary — using the city’s immense and often contradictory pool of stimuli as a pretext. In doing so, it reveals a little more of the Ulysses we all carry within.
